County Community Data
History
The county was formed from part of Lunenburg County in 1764 and was legally
established in 1765. There are five incorporated towns within the county:
Boydton (county seat), Chase City, Clarksville, La Crosse, and South Hill.
The county has a rich tradition of agriculture, primarily in tobacco. The
town of Clarksville is known as the oldest continuous flue-cured tobacco
market in the world.

Government
Mecklenburg County is governed by a nine-member Board of Supervisors. A
county administrator oversees the county's daily operations.
The towns of Boydton, Chase City, Clarksville, La Crosse, and South Hill
are all governed by Town Councils/Mayors. Town managers are employed in
the towns of Chase City, Clarksville, and South Hill.
The county and three towns have all adopted comprehensive plans and zoning
ordinances.

Lake and Lake Gaston. Groundwater: 100 to 500 feet, yield 1 to 90 GPM.

Sand, clay, copper, granite, soapstone, and tungsten.
