Trucking
Mecklenburg County's strategic location accesses three-fifths of
the US population within a 24-hour driving range. Interstate 85
(north-south) bisects the country. US Primary Routes 58 (east-west),
1 (north-south), and State Primary Routes 47 (east-west), and 49
(north-south), and Routes 15, 92, and 4 all serve to connect the
county.
Fifteen trucking firms serve the area, and three operate from local
terminals. Estes Express Lines Inc. and Huss Inc. have local terminals
in Chase City. Blue and Gray Transportation, Roadway Inc., Thurston
Motor Lines Inc., Watkins Motor Lines Inc., Wilson Trucking Corporation,
and Yellow Freight Inc also serve the area.
Parcel Service is provided by UPS and Federal Express
Bus service is provided by Greyhound.
Rail Transportation
Freight Rail Service is available in Chase City and Clarksville.
Short Line service is provided by Virginia Southern Division of
the North Carolina & Virginia Railroad. The service extends
from Keysville, VA, to Oxford, NC, with connections by other carriers.
Physical attributes include 85 to 90 pound track.
