Buggs Island Canoe/Kayak Launch Ribbon Cutting
Posted on:  5/23/2013  by Blog Admin

This morning, Thursday May 23rd, 2013, the Buggs Island Canoe / Kayak Launch ribbon cutting ceremony took place at the Tailrace Park just below the John H. Kerr Reservoir Dam near Boydton, Virginia.  This one-of-a-kind, universal access canoe and kayak launch is the culmination of efforts by the Roanoke River Basin Association, Upper Reach, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Wilmington District), and a number of other generous and dedicated individuals and companies.  Accompanying the launch site is a beautifully designed extension of the popular Tailrace Park just below the dam, and a new standard boat launch area and observation platform.

The launch site and park are opening just in time for Memorial Day weekend, which promises to be very strong around the Buggs Island and Gaston lakes.  Those planning to visit can find a number of quality hotels in and around South Hill and Clarksville, and bed and breakfast properties in Boydton and Clarksville.  See the 'Tourism' tab for more information, or visit our Facebook page for up-to-date information on events and other visitor resources.
