Mecklenburg County Tourism Launches Website for Local Business Collaboration
Posted on:  7/3/2013  by Blog Admin

On Wednesday, July 10th, the recently formed Mecklenburg County Tourism Office announced the launch of a website dedicated to the collaboration and success of local county businesses and organizations.  This site, located at www.mecklenburgva.com/buildingourbrand.aspx , is part of the ongoing effort to coordinate and enhance the budding county-wide tourism efforts.

"Right now we have placed a few resources such as a web presence guide, event coordination tips, and small business assistance on the site," indicated Justin Kerns, the Tourism Coordinator for Mecklenburg County, "and as we continue to grow and receive feedback from the local business community we will update the content and keep it relevant and beneficial."

The web presence guide, for instance, is an easy step-by-step set of instructions with direct links that guides businesses through 'owning' their free listings on sites such as Yelp, TripAdvisor, Bing Places and Google Places.  According to Kerns, "not just teenagers are using the internet and social media sites to find businesses these days; more and more baby boomers and retirees are turning to sites such as TripAdvisor and Facebook to make decisions on where to visit, shop and eat.  Not taking advantage of the free services that these sites offer to business owners is like literally shutting out countless potential customers."

The Mecklenburg County Tourism Office's vision is to build a strong county-wide brand through coordinating resources from various towns and attractions through the area, and using that combined strength to both capture more casual visitors as well as help market the region as a destination for overnight travelers coming from nearby states, or even further.  Offering free, solid tourism industry advice to the local businesses is a crucial component of preparing the area for this expanded promotion and an increase in visitors.
